WitW - Session 45

Jeatz shoddily repaired the frayed rope, and the party took a brief rest as the elevator finally reached the bottom of the chasm. There, they found a faint glow emanating from several large crystals, illuminating stone dwarves who were slowly mining at them—though their efforts appeared fruitless.

Curious, Jeatz attempted to metagame by casting Light to check if these figures were creatures. They were not. Using Detect Magic, he discovered that the crystals radiated enchantment magic. However, Almyre made a grave mistake by attempting to communicate with one of the stone dwarves via Message. The moment the spell connected, the dwarves’ stone visages melted away, revealing small, brain-like creatures that leapt from their heads and attacked.

Fearing the mental abilities of these creatures, the party did all they could to avoid their influence. Almost a dozen emerged from the darkness, assailing them with psychic blasts. Despite the onslaught, the party held their ground and slew them all—though they remained wary of what might come next. Jeatz, ever the enigma, managed to deal a single point of damage by simply spitting on one of them, much to everyone's amusement.

Pressing onward into the mineshaft, they gathered about eight doses of dust loosened from the enchanted crystals. Almyre discovered that these crystals had the ability to free individuals from memory-affecting charms. Horace experienced this firsthand, suddenly recalling childhood memories from before he came to the Wild—memories he had long assumed were erased forever by Exurbia’s magic.

At the end of the mineshaft, they encountered a sheer 30-foot drop into another chasm. From below, deep incantations echoed up toward them.

(Also, Sean’s power went out. Womp womp.)
