WitW - Session 63/64

The party found themselves embroiled in a fight with the Lord of Night. Despite his best efforts  with countless shadows, the party was able to best him and steal his heart. It’s unique power is able to shroud a creature in darkness at the risk of entrancing the user.

Once the sea of darkness cleared, Horace's mentor, Captain Leander was found huddling inside a hollow log, finally free of the Lord of Night's entrapment. The Lord of Night kept the captain hostage all these years, using his knowledge of the spring court to slowly gain power. Now despite his freedom he was still mostly shadow. Leander was happy to say goodbye, thankful to see Horace one last time.

The airship came shortly after, picking them up from the heart of the forest. Lady Lushleaf shared her power with them, giving them a long rest, and off they headed to face Victor Kane. After much MUCH deliberation on the correct route to take, they ultimately decided to land invisibly in the ruins of the temple. However, it seemed as though Kane could see them, and commanded his ice and fire ghoulementals towards them. Kane shifted from Fire to Ice repeatedly, battering the party with ice storms and burning steam. However, the party was able to wear down Kane, tearing his flesh apart until both the Summer and Winter Fey hearts were hanging out of his chest. They ripped them from Victor Kane, and yet were unsuccessful in capturing his soul as it fled into the cabin nearby. In Kane's belonging were the remains of s spherical key the party had to piece together to unlock the magical forcefield surround it.

Once inside, they were joined by their allies who had fended off an army of nefarious fey in the forest. Lady Lushleaf discovered the child convulsing on the ground was actually the missing goddess Exurbia. It would seem that Ariazel was attempting to reconstitute himself within the body of the child - bearing the same necklace that Melchior wore. Lushleaf, along with the Summer, Winter, and Night hearts was able to forcibly conjure forth Lord Connifer.

Almyre joined herself with the Heart of the Summer court, filling the void in her chest, although it did not lighten the burden of being the leader of a court she thought her brother would one day lead. Horace took the Heart of the Winter court, finally seeing the demise of his nemesis and Jeatz held the Heart of Night. Together, they pleaded, attempting to call forth the goddess. They were pulled into a pocket dimension - the spirit of Exurbia.

Once inside, they were met with a massive battlefield in an astral void. Surrounding them were floating island protected by reconstructions of Ariazel's minions - Abraxius, Red Eye, the undead Orc commander, and the horrible Worm form of Victor Kane. The party fought fiercely to recover the scattered pieces of Exurbia's spirit. They were all imbued with some powers of their allies assisting from the outside as well, giving them the upper hand.

Almyre debuted her time stop ability using her new heart, Glitter successfully confused the Orc commander, and Jeatz and Horace bounded around successfully absorbing the parts of Exurbia's spirit.

Once the party gathered the majority of the spirit shards, passing checks reminding them of their past adventures, the fog surrounding them cleared. In the distance, they witnessed a titanic Exurbia and Ariazel clash, with Exurbia winning the contest. Immediately following this, the battlefield faded away into blackness as the battlefield collapsed beneath them.
