WitW - Session 56
The party took a much-needed breather after escaping the Wyvern Knights above Marshven. They did, however, have a pile of bodies to get rid of. Something compelled Horace to start pulling arms and heads off the corpses, much to Glitter’s disgust. Orozag insisted he wasn’t a cannibal—but did enjoy snacking on one of the arms. They found a note on one of the knights stating there was an increased security risk, so the Solarian must have known of the threat to the king.
They checked in with Mae and Hank, gaining some valuable information about Ariazel. They highly suspected he was a lich, which would explain his long life. The downside: they had no leads on where his phylactery might be. Jeatz shared some reassuring words with Mae—that home is where you make it—even if she felt lonely being unable to return to the Wild without risking her life. The same curse would affect Jeatz, but he was unfazed, having always found a way out of tricky situations.
To pass the time, Horace and Jeatz shoved a Solarian head into a cannon, and thanks to a misfired Fireball, blew a hole in the ship, creating yet another malfunction.
The next morning, the party sped toward Lucivatus. They zigzagged through the open skies above the town of Portcullis and the stormy peaks to avoid being spotted by patrolling wyverns. They made it out nearly unscathed—until, at the last moment, they had the misfortune of running into Sparky, the disaffected blue dragon.
With malice, Sparky descended upon the ship, ripping a hole in it with his lightning breath. He knocked Horace and Orozag down with a wing attack and focused his fury on Horace. Orozag fared no better, having been frightened by the dragon.
Jeatz had to Misty Step out of the armor he’d been wearing (in an attempt to deceive any approaching Solarian), so he fought naked—but was below deck, along with Almyre.
The dragon poked his head below to chomp at Almyre and Jeatz. Jeatz fired back with a Fireball and Legendarius, but only after Almyre was knocked unconscious. Horace, leaping from the top rope, killed the dragon with a swift strike to the skull. Jeatz reached out to its fading essence and was blessed with a boon for a future fey-energy check.
They approached the capital and nestled the airship into a small alcove in the mountains. Lucivatus Tower rose two miles above the surface, atop which sat King Melchior.
